Open Text Web Media Management

Optimizing Web media management

Open Text Web Media Management provides a solid management foundation for your Web media assets, transforming them into the backbone on which you can create great online experiences for your customers. Web Media Management provides enhanced features specific to the management of images, podcasts, Adobe Flash files and video metadata. This solution allows editors who work with this web media to streamline the management of libraries, approval, metadata tagging and publishing of these assets.

Effective Web media management

To help with the growing volume of content, multiple files can be uploaded at once, and tagged with default metadata in the same process. Embedded metadata is automatically extracted upon upload, as well as thumbnails for images. These are then stored alongside any user specified metadata. Additionally, editors are able to manipulate image assets by performing operations such as cropping, resizing, rotation, color and brightness effects.

Optimized user interface features

The goal is simple: Make it as easy as possible for editors to effectively manage their Web assets. Web Media Management offers a number of unique functions to enable this. These include:

  • Adaptive user interface: Editors can set personal preferences or choose from one of two themes or interface styles.

  • Personal Media Shelf: Allows easier retrieval and management for favorite assets, or assets most recently modified or uploaded by the user.

  • Optimized full-text search or filtering and query options: Rapidly filter media objects on attributes. Search for assets by metadata tags. Perform in-context actions against items in one click, such as Edit, View Info, Preview, and Add to Shelf.

Manage multiple image sizes and device formats as one

With Web Media Management, editors can reuse and share Web media assets across multiple sites and user experience channels such as desktop or laptop computers, set-top boxes, mobile devices, and thick client applications. But more importantly, even with multiple distribution end points, the assets are stored and published only once. Web Media Management also provides the ability to group multiple size or device specific formats as one rich media asset. The entire group can then be entered into the workflow, be approved, managed and published or deleted as one item, one operation.

Desktop client provides enhanced usability

Enhanced capabilities are available with the optional desktop client, providing a seamless desktop integration. The client provides enhanced upload capabilities such as the ability to drag and drop local files directly from the desktop for upload and manipulation. Common steps or activities can be automated by configuring Web Media Management to generate image variations and automatically pre-assign specific metadata. The desktop integration's management capabilities allow for rapid searching, previewing and metadata assignment after upload. Preferences specific to the desktop integration can also be set creating a customized user experience for the upload and management process from the desktop. These enhanced features are all available directly on the desktop, even before upload, and reduce the number of steps to complete a given task making media editors immediately more productive.
